On this page you will find different videos and other multi-media that showcases the various projects that Paaqavi Incorporated has supported or is directly involved in. We will update this page as new content develops! Below is our first video provided by our Board President!
As part of a “Traditional Architecture” project I am currently working on at Hopi (Taawa’ki Clan House Restoration), I was able to arrange a week-long Archaeology workshop for our work crew. This workshop was co-sponsored by Paaqavi Incorporated and Crow Canyon Archaeological Center, located in Cortez, Colorado. Crow Canyon graciously provided the food, lodging and transportation for this workshop, and we are grateful for their support! You can learn more about this organization at their website: CROWCANYON.ORG
During our week, we spent time in the classroom and laboratory, as well as visiting Mesa Verde National Park, and Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. We also toured the Collection Centers and Museums for both of these agencies, which gave the crew a deeper appreciation for the skill and ingenuity of our ancestors. The classroom and laboratory time was spent analyzing different architectural materials from the historic Taawa’ki Clan House.
Archaeologists from Crow Canyon are assisting us with some of the restoration work, and they provided hands-on training in Dendrochronology (Tree-ring dating), and analysis of mortars, clays, plasters, and botanical remains. Crow Canyon will continue to assist our work, and the organization is a key partner in the development of future training workshops and programs.
Overall, it was a great week for the crew, all of whom this was their first time in the area. We wish to Thank all of the staff who assisted with our workshop, especially those from Mesa Verde National Park and Canyons of the Ancients National Monument. They opened their doors and gave us access to areas that were not readily open to the public. Also, a big Thank You to our videographer and editor, Autry Lomahongva (Hopi/Diné), for spending the week with us and putting this video clip together.
It is these types of endeavors that Paaqavi Incorporated would like to continue to support and develop.
